What is titanium?
Titanium is a light, strong metal with about 60% of the density of steel. A thin, self-healing oxide film protects it, so it resists seawater, chlorides, wet chlorine and oxidising acids where stainless steels pit and crack. That is why it is used for heat exchangers, seawater systems, chlor-alkali and bleach plants, marine hardware and medical implants.
Commercially pure grades (1, 2) are soft, easy to form and weld. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is the high-strength alloy. Grades 7 and 12 add palladium or molybdenum and nickel for better resistance in reducing acids and crevices.

Titanium: common questions
Which titanium grades does your titanium supplier service in Chennai stock?
Grades 1, 2, 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), 7 and 12 in sheet, plate, bar, pipe, tube and forgings. Other grades such as Gr 9 and Gr 23 can be sourced on request.
Is titanium stronger than steel?
Grade 5 titanium has a tensile strength of about 895 MPa, similar to many alloy steels, at roughly 60% of the weight. Commercially pure grades are weaker than most steels but far more corrosion resistant.
Can a titanium supplier in Chennai also machine and weld the material?
We can. We cut, CNC machine and TIG weld titanium under ASME IX procedures, so you can order finished parts instead of raw stock.
Does titanium rust?
No. Titanium does not rust. Its oxide film protects it in seawater and most oxidising media. It can corrode in hot reducing acids, where Grade 7 or Grade 12 is preferred.
